A chamois (pronounced sham-ee) is a kind of very soft cloth often used to polish cars and smooth surfaces without scratching as it has no abrasive properties. It is also a material of unprecedented absorbency, so excellent for drying your car or windows

Originally, this cloth was made from the skin of a goatlike antelope which was called a chamois, that lives in Europe. However chamois are now very rare and only live in the Alps and other European Mountains.

The vast majority of chamois sold these days are actually sheepskin
